Ize was founded to “reconcile the realms of architecture, art, design and manufacture” and in this spirit, the company commissioned David Adjaye to design a set of door furniture and ironmongery. The project resulted in a range that has been used, almost without exception, on the practice’s buildings ever since. Like an extension of the architecture, itself, the ironmongery offers a way-in to the building from the smallest, most ordinary detail. By aligning the detail with the overarching concept, the door furniture encapsulates the spirit of the architecture – with its contemporary sensibility – and establishes a fitting human interface that reaches across every scale.
